Student Life

Student Life

Our highest priority from the very beginning has been to create a school where every student feels safe, connected, understood, and supported. The Gateway Academy’s positive, engaging environment reshapes attitudes about school, improves outlooks for success in the classroom, and allows students to become the best version of themselves. The transformations that occur within our walls are not a product of formula or magic: it occurs when the students understand their potential and become equipped to face the changing world with confidence, self-advocacy, and focus on a lifelong journey of personal significance.

Electives

In addition to academic classes, students take electives that cultivate interests, strengths, and special talents. Electives over and above the core curriculum provide interdisciplinary overlap with more traditional courses, creating a richer learning experience.

Community Service

We make sure our students look beyond the facility walls and into the world they live in. A key aspect of attending Gateway Academy is that our students envision themselves as advocates for their own differences and, in a greater sense, participants in a greater community of caring. By serving the community, students can see how their experience and talents are a resource they can give to others. What a rewarding feeling and great encouragement to live a life of generosity and compassion! Weekly community service occurs at various locations such as:

Student Events

Individuals with disabilities can learn and grow immensely when exposed to social situations. We keep a full social calendar for our students with the goal of providing a normal high school experience and all the valuable memories that they will cherish long after their time at Gateway Academy. Through these organized events, Gateway students practice language, pragmatics, critical thinking and social skills daily. The benefits that result play into their academics, work ethic, and overall harmony with other individuals.
