PARENT & FAMILY SUPPORT

To fully support each student and family through life at Gateway, we have developed several offerings that work in collaboration to better our students’ life and parents' understanding of the growth their child is experiencing.

Parent Education
Our programming provides robust opportunities for parents to find support and encouragement with other current and alumni families in the Gateway community. Parents, grandparents, and guardians participate in roundtable discussions, cohort coffees, and interactive workshops covering relevant topics such as: parenting a child with differences, supporting strong mental health in adolescents, financial planning, sex education, technology addiction, and transition to adulthood and independence. Our parent programming corresponds to the age-appropriate transition curriculum provided to all students and is an opportunity for our community to share resources, ideas, and information.

Over the last year, we have expanded our parent education and family support through multiple online platforms. Our team has offered monthly workshops to engage parents around relevant and immediate topics impacting our students, as well as weekly open table discussions for grade-level cohorts to discuss the current and pressing challenges brought on by the global pandemic. Topics included: how to manage exacerbated fear, anger, sadness, and worry, how to utilize daily/weekly schedules to minimize disruptions to healthy sleep patterns and ways to engage students for extended periods of time without technology.
