For nearly two decades, Gateway Academy has been a leading private, non-profit school for students with social and learning differences in grades 6–12. We specialize in serving learners with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia.
At Gateway, we prefer to use umbrella terms like "social and learning differences" because our students represent a range of strengths and challenges—not just a diagnosis. This intentional approach fosters a community where neurodiverse learners support one another, grow together, and gain the skills to succeed in the real world.
For young adults, Gateway extends its approach to a specialized post-high school program designed to bridge the gap between education and independent living. This program focuses on self-sufficiency, financial literacy, and work readiness, providing personalized coaching and real-world experiences. With these tools, our young adults transition confidently into the next chapter of their lives, ready to lead with purpose and independence.
We invite you to see how The Gateway Difference continues to set the standard for empowering students to thrive.
As a team, we consistently gauge our success against two measurements: our impact on individual families and our impact on the community.
We consider an individual student a “success” when they are able to move into a workplace or academic setting with confidence, operating within their community with a sense of direction and purpose. Our program aims to provide the education and experiences necessary to foster self-advocacy skills that will ultimately lead our graduates to a life of self-sufficiency. So to us, success isn’t simply about a high school diploma – success is about our graduates’ accessibility and initiative to leading a life filled with joy, relationships, and independence after leaving Gateway.
Secondly, we consider ourselves “successful” in delivering our mission to the community when people are more informed about resources, services, and options available to their families after engaging with our staff, our families, and our social media. We believe that the most revolutionary thing we can do, besides being an innovative educational program, is to give resources freely and frequently to all families and providers, to grow a more connected community. This benefits not only our school and families, but all families of children with differences in the greater Houston area.
Our Mission - Gateway Academy empowers neurodiverse students through academics, internships, and social awareness to achieve success in education, employment, and life.
Our highest priority from the very beginning has been to create a school community where every student feels safe, connected, understood, and supported. This positive environment reshapes attitudes about school, improves the prospects for success in the classroom, and allows the student to bring their best self every day. Since 2006, we have worked with over 500 students and families in the greater Houston area. Our campus is located within the Houston ISD boundaries and our unique programming has served students from 20+ school districts.
As a parent, your child is your number one priority. You go through life wanting the best for your child and desire for them to learn the skills to live successfully without your constant assistance. At Gateway, we understand and have the same goals for your child. We have the staff, programs, and attention that provides students with an opportunity to lead a self-sufficient life filled with joy, relationships, self-worth, independence, growth, and a sense of community.
