Gateway to Future Independance

As a private school for students with academic and social challenges, parents walk through our doors for many reasons. Parents want a place for their child to overcome their anxiety and be confident approaching young adulthood.  We always ask them the same question: “What do you see for your child’s future independence?” 

Parents are focused on the typical pieces of an academic environment but can’t quite put their finger on what will make their child successful. We believe that in addition to academics, students need a focus on personal accountability and a better understanding of their relationship to the world around them. Building a foundation of lifelong learning and employment skills prepares them to become meaningful contributors to their community, so we orient all of our programs around transitioning to adulthood because we know a diploma does not ensure independence after graduation.

At Gateway, we understand our students will make mistakes. We have created an environment where students learn from their mistakes by emphasizing how mistakes are one step in the process of continuous improvement. Through this process, our students are developing confidence, resilience, and personal accountability.

Our hope is that through academics, social/emotional learning, employment training and experiences, and physical fitness habits, our students are empowered to become self-sufficient young adults.
